
The Armed Forces Division welcomed the rescue and medical assistance team sent to Myanmar led by the Bangladesh Army

Dhaka, 16 April 2025 (Wednesday): After the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar on 28 March 2025, a 55-member rescue and medical team led by the Bangladesh Army was sent on the instructions of the Honorable Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. In addition, a total of 151.5 tons of humanitarian assistance was provided in three phases from 30 March 2025 to 12 April 2025 through five aircraft and one ship. This includes food, medicine, tents, clean water, blankets, clothing, hygiene items and various emergency items.
The Myanmar government assigned the Bangladesh rescue team the task of recovering important items from the three partially destroyed buildings of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which they successfully completed. In addition, it helped identify vulnerable and safe locations of 45 damaged residential buildings, clinics, shopping malls, etc. in different areas of Naypyidaw. In addition, the Bangladesh team formulated a coordinated plan to conduct joint rescue operations in the collapsed building of Naypyidaw Central Fire Service Station and the Myanmar authorities later conducted the rescue operations as per the plan. In addition, the Bangladesh medical team, comprising military and civilian specialist doctors and nurses, provided medical services to a total of 885 patients, including 17 complex surgeries.
After the successful operation, the rescue and medical team reached Chittagong port yesterday afternoon through the Bangladesh Navy ship ‘Banouja Samudra Abhiyan’. The Bangladesh rescue and medical support team was given a special reception by the Armed Forces Division today (16 April 2025). At the reception, the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, Lieutenant General S. M. Kamrul Hasan, BSP, NDC, HDMC, PSC, PhD, presented a memento of honor to each member of the rescue and medical team.
The humanitarian aid sent by the Bangladesh government during the Myanmar crisis and the humanitarian activities of the Bangladesh rescue and medical team are indicative of the compassionate behavior and culture of the people of Bangladesh towards their neighbors. The compassionate and humanitarian role of Bangladesh during this crisis will further strengthen the brotherly relations between the two countries. In the future, the Bangladesh Army is always ready and committed to fulfill any responsibility at home and abroad under the instructions of the government.
